Delphinium ‘Purple Passion’
Richly coloured and wonderfully elegant, Delphinium ‘Purple Passion’ produces towering spires of evenly coloured, intense purple flowers, each beautifully accented with a contrasting white bee. Bred as part of the celebrated New Millennium breeding programme in New Zealand, it combines exceptional flower quality with strong stems, making it equally at home in the garden or the cutting patch. Their stately flower spikes reach 1.2–1.5 metres, creating a dramatic vertical accent in the perennial border while also producing outstanding cut flowers for the vase.
Flowering from November through to the end of April, they reward good cultivation with an exceptionally long season of colour. Remove spent flower spikes as they fade to encourage repeat flowering. At Lambley, we cut our plants back to the ground after the first magnificent flush in early January and, within just a few weeks, they produce another spectacular display of rich purple blooms.
Grow in full sun or light afternoon shade in fertile, well-drained soil with regular summer irrigation. Given good garden conditions, this outstanding perennial will provide years of spectacular displays.
