The Illawarra Flame Tree is one of the world’s most spectacular trees when it erupts into flower. Whilst evergreen for most of the time when about to blossom it will lose its glossy green, lobed leaves and be smothered in brilliant red, bell shaped waxy flowers. As it isn’t very frost hardy it is best grown in warmer areas such as the coastal areas of Victoria and New South Wales and in the southern parts of Queensland. Growing to 15 metres tall by up to 8 metres wide it is best suited to large gardens and parks.
