Sweetpea ‘Erewhon’ (Lathyrus odoratus x belinensis)

This delightful plant is a hybrid between Lathyrus odoratus and the closely related, recently discovered intensely fragrant Turkish species, Lathyrus belinensis. The flowers have light pink upper petals and blue lower petals. 200cm.

When to sow: The end of February until August

Where to sow: Direct sow in the garden, or in small pots
Depth to sow: 8 to 12mm
Aspect:  Full sun, or as sunny a spot as possible
Soil:  Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil
Spacing: 15-20cm between plants

Directions: If seed is planted at monthly intervals, flowers can be had from late winter until Christmas. A single planting will last two or three months as long as spent flowers are removed. Traditionally sweet peas are planted on St. Patrick’s Day, the 17th of March, but any time from the end of February until August is fine.
