Mizuna (Brassica rapa var. niposinica)
A quick growing, slow bolting salad green with a mild mustard flavour. It can be picked in as little as three weeks from sowing. It adds a piquancy to a mixed salad bowl but I enjoy it on its own with an olive oil and balsamic dressing.
When to sow: Early spring until April
Where to sow: Sow thinly in a 10cm wide band 10 seeds per 5cm
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: 10cm wide band 10 seeds per 5cm; 30cm between rows
Directions: Harvest when leaves are from 10cm tall.
