Hydrangeaceae
Hydrangea paniculata ‘Grandiflora’
‘Grandiflora’ is a much better doer than the dwarf varieties of H. paniculata. If left unpruned it will make a large shrub or small tree some 3 to 7 metres tall by 2 to 4 metres wide. It can be kept to a more manageable size by giving it a hard cut back during winter. As it blooms on new seasons wood, this hard cut doesn’t affect flowering. It will grow happily in any well-nurtured, moist spot in the garden, given a little protection from searing winds.
