Hydrangea paniculata ‘Floribunda’

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Floribunda’

Hydrangea paniculata is the hardiest of all Hydrangea species for hot climate gardens. ‘Floribunda’ was brought into cultivation in western gardens from Japan in the 1860s and has stood the test of time winning an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993. In good soil it will grow 180cm tall by as much across in hills gardens but a deal less in hotter spots. As it produces large conical white flowers on new season’s wood we cut back to 60cm each winter. This pruning will give much larger flower heads than plants which aren’t pruned. We grow it in a sunny spot protected from the north wind.
