Acanthus syriacus

Acanthus syriacus

Syrian Bear's Breeches

Egyptian Christians believe that the leaves of this plant, a native of the Holy Land, was woven into the Crown of Thorns by the Romans before setting it on the head of Jesus. From a mound of handsome foliage, the leaves are 40cm long by 5 cm wide, 50 cm tall spikes carry white flowers enclosed in purple bracts. This striking drought tolerant, winter dormant plant is happy in any sunny well drained spot. 50cm by 60cm
