Salvia nemorosa ‘Giovanni’

Salvia nemorosa ‘Giovanni’

Giovanni's Meadow Sage

This is the best Salvia nemorosa I know. It resulted from a cross between Salvia nemorosa ssp tesquicola ‘Kate Glenn’( a Lambley selection) and Salvia nemorosa ‘Viola Klose’. The large bracts make this plant distinct from other Salvia nemorosa clones. The flower colour of Salvia ‘Giovanni’ is a rich glowing dark violet, the bracts are purple. It is in full glory even during late autumn when all other S. nemorosa clones are finished. The branching habit of the flower stem also extends shelf life. The showy bracts gives the plant a long shelf life as even when some of the flowers drop the bracts still keep the plant looking attractive. It has good foliage with none of the yellowing that some cultivars have. In the garden this cultivar grows 40cm to 45 cm tall and 80cm wide. Salvia ‘Giovanni’ attracts more attention from the public than any other clone and everyone who sees it growing covets it.
