Salvia africana-lutea ‘Green Ginger’

Salvia africana-lutea ‘Green Ginger’

Syn. Salvia aurea
Green Calyx Form

I am a huge fan of this plant both for its hardiness in our frosty and dry climate, but also its structural form and colour. This one is of especial significance and much harder to find due to the green calyxes which create a sublime colour contrast with the golden-brown flowers. This fine South African Salvia makes a handsome, dense evergreen metre tall shrub well dressed in silvery green leaves. The flowers, which are produced in waves throughout spring and summer, are yellow when they first open but soon turn a unique golden brown. The individual flowers are long lasting. Best grown in a well-drained sunny spot. Drought tolerant when once established.
