Parsnip ‘Melbourne White Skin’ (Pastinaca sativa)
We only sell fresh parsnip seed as old seed has very poor germination rates. This selected open pollinated vigorous strain has excellent white tapered roots, firm and bulky. Sow from early spring until early December.
When to sow: Mid spring to early summer
Where to sow: Direct
Depth to sow: 1cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants: Thin to 7 or 8cm Between rows: 40cm
Directions: Parsnips seed must be fresh. Plant the seed in a drill into deep friable soil from mid-spring until early summer. Parsnips take 3 weeks or more to germinate and must not be allowed to dry out during this time. Thin seedlings to 7 or 8cm apart. Ready to harvest winter into early spring.
