Melon, 'Piel de Sapo'
‘Piel de Sapo’ melons have very sweet juicy aromatic pale green to white flesh. This melon is widely grown in Spain. ‘Piel de Sapo’ translates as “skin of the toad’ which poetically describes the thick mottled green skin. This variety needs to be sown undercover during October and planted out late November.
Grow them in two ways:
1. Plant one seed per pot in October in a warm indoor spot. Plant out after the last frost in a spot protected from wind. A plastic tree guard may be used. Harvest in February.
2. Plant two seeds directly into the garden in November. Thin to one plant when the first leaves appear. Harvest these in March.
