Magnolia grandiflora ‘Exmouth’
This noble evergreen tree was planted in parks and gardens throughout Australia in the 19th and early part of the 20th century. Growing up to 20 metres tall eventually, although this will take a lifetime, it has made a handsome 6 metres in 12 years here at Lambley. ‘Exmouth’ is clothed in the typically large dark green glossy leaves but untypically it will start flowering after only half dozen years. Huge, intensely fragrant waxy flowers are produced during spring and early summer with a fragrance rich enough to make one swoon. M. grandiflora itself can take up to 25 years to flower.
