Fennel, Early Baby ‘Tauro’ F1 (Foeniculum vulgare)
A new French variety of mini fennel which if grown well resists running up to seed and so can be sown from late August until December for harvesting from December until April. Makes delicious round white bulbs
When to sow: Late August until December
Where to sow: Direct sow
Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 5cm
Between rows 45cm
Directions: Direct sow from late August until December two or three seeds 1/2cm deep every 5cm in rows which are 45cm apart. After germination thin to one seedling taking care not to disturb the seedling which is left. Any disturbance can cause the fennel to run up to seed prematurely.
