Cupressus torulosa

Cupressus torulosa

Bhutan Cypress

During the 19th Century these were planted in Melbourne cemeteries and is one of the best conifers for Australian conditions. C. torulosa is a species of cypress tree native to the mountainous northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, in the western Himalayas. There is an especially beautiful one in the Kew cemetery. An upright conical conifer makes an excellent evergreen specimen tree as well as a useful untrimmed wind break or timber tree. C. torulosa is resistant to cypress canker. Best grown on well drained soils where it will grow 3 metres wide by about 5 metres tall in 5 years with a mature growth of 15-20 metres.
