Clematis x jackmanii ‘Warsaw Nike’

Syn. Syn. ‘Warszawska Nike’

Outstanding, large velvet purple-red flowers 16-20cm across with contrasting cream stamens are profusely produced from late spring/early summer into the autumn. Reputed to tolerate more shade than most it is a moderate grower with the vines reaching 1.8-200cm.

This is one of the most popular Clematis much loved by Clematis growers worldwide. ‘Warsaw Nike’ was raised by the Polish Jesuit monk Brother Stefan Franczac and first released in 1986. It won the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit plant for its beauty and performance in a garden setting. In Greek mythology Nike was the winged goddess of victory.

As ‘Warsaw Nike’ flowers on the current year’s growth cut down to 15-30cm during winter. Besides making a great plant to cover a fence or trellis or clamber through trees and climbing roses ‘Warsaw Nike’will perform well in a large container.
