Clematis ‘Edo Murasaki’
‘Edo Murasaki’ is a vigorous variety with large reddish purple flowers some 15-20cm across. ‘Edo Murasaki’ means Old Edo Purple and is named for the deep purple-red colour which was fashionable during the Edo era from the 16th until the mid 19th century. Edo was the name for Tokyo during this time. This clematis will grow 2.5 metres tall by 1.5 metres wide. “Edo Murasaki’ was raised by the Japanese breeder Seijozo Arai in 1952. It will flower during late spring and early summer and again in autumn if cut back hard after the first flush of flowers is over.
