Chilli, Jalapeno Pepper ‘Popeye’ F1
Popeye is a new early producing Jalapeno suitable for growing in cooler areas of the country. It has high yields of 8cm by 3cm glossy dark green fruits which are suitable for stuffing.
When to sow: Late winter or early spring
Where to sow: In pots Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 50cm Between rows 60-80cm
Directions: Plant one seed into individual 5cm to 7.5cm pots on bottom heat or in a warm indoor position mid to late August. Leave on heat until October and then move the plants off the heat but keep them under cover. In November harden off outside for a few days whilst still in the pots. Plant out and stake. Put a plastic tree guard around the seedlings to protect it from the wind and cold for a few weeks. Put four 80cm stakes around the plant to support the plant when weighed down by fruit.
