Chaenomeles speciosa ‘Winter Cheer’
Scarlet Japonica
Growing 160cm tall by as much across this Japonica produces a mass of five petalled scarlet flowers on bare stems during winter. Often used as a tough informal hedge it also makes a fine single specimen. The flowers pick well and keeping for two weeks or more in a vase. Happy in any sunny or lightly shaded spot and needing very little supplementary irrigation when once established.
