Celery ‘Julius’ F1
An excellent hybrid variety producing long smooth dark green stalks which will crop from mid-summer until the end of winter. From September until January sow three seeds 1 mm deep per 5cm pot and thin to one plant per pot. When large enough plant 15 to 20cm apart in fertile soil which must be kept moist at all times.
When to sow: September until early January
Where to sow: In a seed trays or pot
Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 15 to 20cm Between rows 60cm
Directions: To grow celery well the seeds once planted must never be allowed to dry out, neither in the seedling trays nor in the vegetable garden. Plant the seed in trays under cover from September until early December. They take 2 to 3 weeks to germinate. Prick out into 5cm tubes or similar when the seedlings have 2 true leaves. A month or so later plant into the garden on a cool day.
