Brussels Sprouts ‘Dagan’ F1 (Brassica oleracea)
This tall reliable midseason variety is ready to harvest from late autumn into mid-winter and has medium to large firm smooth sprouts which hold well in the garden. It’s important to sow seed in November and plant out in January.
When to sow: Mid October-November
Where to sow: Seed trays, pots or outside seed beds.
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 40-60cm
Between rows 80-90cm
Directions: Mid October to early November is the best and really the only time to plant Brussels Sprouts seeds either in seed trays, pots or outside seed beds. Any later planting is more than likely to end in disappointment. In windy areas staking may be necessary. When harvesting break off the leaf below the sprout and snap off the sprout. Plant seed no later than November and transplant to permanent position by early January at the latest.
