Beschorneria yuccoides
False Red Agave
One of the wonders of the hardy plant world, drought tolerant and totally handsome, Beschorneria yuccoides makes a 100cm tall rosette of pewter-grey Yucca like foliage, soft to the touch and not at all spiny. When large enough it sends dramatic 2 metre tall, red flower spikes which carry bright green flowers enclosed in showy red bracts. Allow for a 100cm spread. We use this plant extensively in the dry garden for its strong architectural effect.
