Bergenias are hardy evergreen perennials that have long been a staple in Australian gardens. Needing very little irrigation once established they are popular in shady parts of the garden, but will take the full sun if protected from extreme heat or watered occasionally in the summer. Recent breeding work has only improved the type. Dark Damsel is a distinctive new selection which makes mounds of dark green leathery leaves which colour purple during winter. Early spring brings clusters of candy pink bells carried on strong 35cm tall flower stems. Height 35cm. Spread 50cm.
