Vegetable Seed Online is a wonderful way of getting hold of this plant that Greek people love with its rich spinach flavour. It is far superior to silver beet. In Greece it is boiled in salted water and then served with a squeeze of lemon and a splash of olive oil. It is also used in Indian cooking. A warm season vegetable best sown in mild frost-free climates from early spring, mid to late spring in colder climates. Start picking young leaves when the plant is 30cm tall. Red leaf amaranth has oval green leaves overlain with burgundy.


When to sow: Late spring
Where to sow: Direct sow
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect:  Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil:  Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add   lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants: 30-60cm;  Height: 200cm


Directions:  Make a shallow drill and place three or four seed 30cm apart, thin to one seedling after germination. After germination thin to one seedling.
