AOA lilies are hybrids between Oriental and Asiatic lilies back crossed with another Asiatic. Whilst the initial intent was to breed commercial cut flower types the outward facing flowers and long pedicels of AOA lilies made them unsuitable. These characteristics however made them desirable garden plants. Home gardeners can of course use them in flower arrangements. Lightly fragrant they have a long blooming period beginning in December. AOA lilies have flowers as large as Oriental lilies but with the vigour and performance of an Asiatic.
