Allium ‘Purple Sensation’
Startlingly beautiful and an essential part of English gardens ‘Purple Sensation’ has been a challenge to acclimatise to Australian conditions.
The trick is to plant the bulb immediately on receipt 12-15cm deep. The bulb will remain dormant until late winter when it makes a spurt of growth before flowering in November. Flower stems are 60cm-90cm tall and the purple flower heads are 10cm across ‘Purple Sensation’ increases well when once established unlike most other large flowered Alliums. The bulbs are best planted in a sunny well drained spot and like the majority of bulbs requires a cold frosty winter and a moderately dry summer to thrive.
