Long, hanging racemes of vanilla-scented, chocolate-red flowers are produced in spring and are followed by showy sausage shaped fruits. This semi-evergreen climber prefers a spot in light shade or full sun. Fairly drought-tolerant once established and frost-hardy to -10C. A vigorous climber, it will grow up to 4 metres but can be kept lower. It has a spread of 2.5 metres.
