Salvia interrupta
This evergreen shrubby species from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco where it grows in lightly shaded woodland as well as more exposed rocky sites. It makes a tidy 60cm by 60cm plant well clothed with three lobed leaves. The elegant flower stems can reach 120cm tall and carry large violet white throated flowers for many months during late spring and summer. If dead headed there is often a second flush of flowers during mid autumn. Drought tolerant when once established it will be best in planted in a well drained spot in full sun but it will take some light shade. Our original stock came from Craig Irving’s marvellous garden, Sunnymeade, in Victoria’s Strathbogies.
