Florence Fennel ‘Orion’ F1
This hybrid fennel is a better proposition than open pollinated varieties as it resists running up to seed. Plant seeds from mid spring until mid-summer. Direct sow into drills in rows 45cm apart and thin the seedlings to 15cm apart.
When to sow: Mid spring until mid summer
Where to sow: Direct sow Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 15cm Between rows 45cm
Directions: From mid-spring until January plant two or three seeds 1cm deep every 15cm in rows which are 45cm apart. After germination thin to one seedling taking care not to disturb the seedling which is left. Any disturbance can cause the fennel to run up to seed prematurely. Keep the beds well-watered and clean of weeds.
