Celeriac ‘Mars’
‘Mars’ makes a vigorous healthy plant with a large root and a firm interior even when it gets very large size. The foliage is upright making for easier weed control. Sow seeds during spring.
When to sow: October or November
Where to sow: Sow seed in seed trays
Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 15 to 20cm Between rows 60cm
Directions: To grow celeriac well seeds and seedlings must never be allowed to dry out, neither in the seedling trays nor in the vegetable garden. Plant the seed in trays under cover from October until early December. They take 2 to 3 weeks to germinate. Prick out into 5cm tubes or similar when the seedlings have 2 true leaves. A month or so later plant into the garden on a cool day.
