Brodiaea californica ‘Babylon’
A large flowered selection of Brodiaea californica selected for the Dutch cut flower trade. 60cm tall self-supporting stems carry a head of twenty or so upward facing, glossy petalled, amethyst flowers. A patch in a new garden at Lambley flowered for nearly six weeks from early November until mid-December. A superb new import which, like all of its kin, needs a well drained sunny spot during winter and the early part of spring. During summer I allow a low growing Humming Bird Trumpet to cover the spot where the Brodiaea’s bulbs lay dormant until the cold winter weather shakes them out of their hibernation.
