Broccoli, Purple Sprouting ‘Bonarda’ F1 (Brassica oleracea)
Purple sprouting broccoli is the best flavoured of all. It can be harvested for a short delicious period during spring after prolonged exposure to cold weather to crop. Bonarda is a new productive variety.
When to sow: mid to late summer for planting out in autumn
Where to sow: See below
Depth to sow: 5mm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 35 to 40cm
Between rows 60cm
Directions: I plant broccoli seed in two ways. Plant under cover in late winter for a spring crop. Another method is to plant a 5mm deep drill in outside seed beds and then transplant six weeks later into the final position.
