Arum pictum, a native of Majorca, Minorca, Corsica, Sardinia and parts of Italy, flowers in the autumn just before or just as it unfurls its incredibly beautiful leaves. The flower spathes are purple and the spadix is black but it is for the foliage effect that this species is renowned. Large deep green, glossy leaves are outlined with a thin purple line. The foliage is beautiful for the whole of winter and is still good in spring. By summer it is dormant. It grows in a quite dry spot with us but would be happier for a little summer moisture. 60cm by 75cm.
